HONEY HUNTER | Kathmandu Films

HONEY HUNTER is a high-risk adventure documentary feature produced in 2015, capturing the ancient and perilous tradition of Himalayan honey hunting in Nepal. Set in some of the most remote and rugged regions of the country, the film follows expert local hunters as they undertake a dangerous seasonal ritual, scaling vertical cliffs using handmade rope ladders to harvest wild honey from giant bee hives. Suspended hundreds of feet above the ground and surrounded by aggressive swarms of bees, every step of the process is a test of skill, endurance, and survival.

This visually powerful documentary combines raw adventure with deep cultural storytelling, offering a rare insight into a centuries-old tradition passed down through generations. It explores not only the physical risks involved but also the spiritual beliefs, community values, and ecological knowledge that define this unique practice. The film highlights the delicate balance between humans and nature, showcasing a way of life that continues to exist on the edge of extreme conditions.

Chandan Jha and Kathmandu Films worked as Line Producer and Fixer in Nepal, managing filming permits, complex logistics, remote location access, local crew coordination, and complete on-ground production support. Filming this high-risk documentary required detailed planning, safety management, and the ability to operate in isolated environments with limited infrastructure.

HONEY HUNTER stands as a strong example of Kathmandu Films’ capability to execute demanding, high-altitude, and adventure-driven documentary productions. It reflects the company’s strength in delivering reliable production services in extreme conditions while maintaining high international production standards.
