How Kathmandu Films Delivered World-Class Production
Inside One of Nepal’s Most Challenging International Film Productions
In international filmmaking, success is never defined only by beautiful visuals.
It is defined by execution under pressure, fast problem-solving, reliable local coordination, and the ability to deliver even when conditions become unpredictable.
This is exactly where Kathmandu Films has built its reputation.
With experience across more than 200 international productions, Kathmandu Films has become one of the leading line production companies and fixer services in Nepal, trusted by global brands, agencies, broadcasters, filmmakers, and production companies worldwide.
Led by Chandan Jha, widely recognized as one of the most experienced fixers and line producers in Nepal, the company specializes in managing complex productions across the Himalayas, remote mountain regions, urban cities, heritage locations, and challenging terrains throughout Nepal.
One of the company’s standout international projects was the Google x Polarsteps campaign produced in collaboration with Gramafilms, a London-based creative production company known for high-end international storytelling.
This was not just another commercial shoot.
It became a real demonstration of what professional production support in Nepal truly means.
A Global Production Collaboration in Nepal
When Gramafilms selected Nepal as a filming destination for the Google Polarsteps campaign, the expectations were extremely high.
The production required international production standards, fast-moving logistics, cinematic travel visuals, flexible scheduling, and flawless local execution.
Kathmandu Films was brought on board to manage line production, logistics, local coordination, transportation, location management, production execution, and on-ground problem-solving across Nepal.
From the earliest planning stages, the project required precise coordination between international creative teams and local production operations.
Kathmandu Films handled every aspect professionally, ensuring smooth communication and efficient execution throughout the production.
Last-Minute Production Changes Across Nepal
One of the biggest challenges came unexpectedly.
The original production plan was designed around filming in Kathmandu.
However, due to changing production requirements, the entire shoot shifted to Pokhara almost overnight.
For many productions, a sudden city change creates major delays, increased costs, logistical breakdowns, and scheduling issues.
Kathmandu Films adapted immediately.
Within hours, the team reorganized transportation, accommodations, local crew coordination, filming logistics, scheduling, and equipment movement to ensure the production continued without disruption.
This level of rapid coordination is one of the reasons why international productions consistently rely on experienced fixers and line producers in Nepal.
Filming in Extreme Weather Conditions
As filming progressed, the production encountered another major challenge: relentless rain.
The combination of wet mountain roads, unstable terrain, narrow hillside access, and changing weather conditions created a difficult environment for filming operations.
Despite these obstacles, Kathmandu Films continued production safely and efficiently.
The team managed complex filming setups including open vehicle shots, moving camera rigs, mobile tracking sequences, and safety-controlled filming operations under harsh weather conditions.
Rather than delaying production, the team focused on adaptive execution, technical planning, and controlled risk management to maintain filming progress.
Remote Location Filming Near Sarangkot & Pumdi Bhumdi
The primary production days started before sunrise.
At around 5 AM, the crew moved toward filming locations near Sarangkot and Pumdi Bhumdi in the Pokhara region.
Heavy overnight rain had damaged parts of the road network, creating transportation difficulties and access limitations for production vehicles.
Kathmandu Films quickly adjusted the operational plan by switching to four-wheel-drive vehicles and restructuring the filming schedule in real time.
This flexibility allowed the production to continue smoothly while maintaining both safety and creative quality.
The team successfully captured authentic cinematic travel moments against Nepal’s mountain landscapes despite highly challenging conditions.
This type of execution is what separates a standard production service from a highly experienced international line production team.
Managing Production Logistics Under Pressure
The production later moved toward Damauli, known for its scenic riverside landscapes and natural cinematic beauty.
The filming day involved multi-location coordination, riverside production setups, transportation management, equipment handling, crew movement, and long operational hours.
During the return journey, one of the vehicles experienced mechanical problems.
Even then, contingency planning ensured the production schedule remained intact and the crew returned safely without affecting the overall shoot timeline.
Professional production management is not only about filming successfully when everything goes according to plan.
It is about solving problems quickly when conditions become difficult.
Capturing the Himalayan Visuals for Google
The final objective of the project was to capture clear Himalayan visuals for the campaign.
Weather conditions remained unstable throughout the schedule, making mountain visibility uncertain.
Despite repeated weather disruptions, Kathmandu Films continued monitoring conditions and adjusting the production schedule strategically.
At approximately 4:30 AM, the crew moved again toward Sarangkot to capture the Himalayan sunrise visuals required for the campaign.
The persistence paid off.
The production successfully captured high-quality cinematic footage that matched the visual standards expected by both Google and Gramafilms.
